RESEARCH ENGINEER - MECHANICAL SYSTEMS

Job Summary:

Join our Defense and Intelligence Solutions Division as a Research Engineer. Collaborate with a team of engineers and technical staff to solve complex mechanical/aerospace problems with conceptual designs, systems modeling, and fabrication of prototype hardware. Design, develop, and perform systems engineering duties in the development/packaging of mechanical and electrical systems for Aerospace applications. Lead a group of engineers to accomplish project goals and participate in sensor design and packaging. Present and pursue ideas for internal research and development. Participate in new business development activities including identification of new business opportunities, proposal writing, budget estimating, and customer presentations. Be responsive to dynamic business and market conditions and have client-oriented interpersonal skills.

Education/Experience:

Requires a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering; MS is preferred. Must have at least a 3.0 GPA. Must have at least 3 years of design experience and past performance executing project management responsibilities and interfacing with clients. Requires experience with design and testing in the Aerospace Industry. Experience with SolidWorks and its Premium applications to support thermal and vibration analysis, Mentor Graphics FLOTHERM for Thermal Analysis of Printed Wiring Boards and associated mechanical packaging, MATLAB, and Simulink required. Must be familiar with design and drawing standards. Must have the ability to work as part of a team. Experience in designing around complex mechanical components into functional assemblies is required. Must have a working knowledge of electro-mechanical systems, understand engineering design principles, FEA and Thermal Analysis, GD&T and be able to understand how to perform vibration, stress, and fracture analyses. Experience in electro-mechanical systems packaging is a plus. Experience in RadHard Design is a plus. Experience with Mil-Spec components and integration into design is a plus. Knowledge and experience in designing components and systems to survive Environmental Testing a plus. Leadership experience in project management and cost/schedule/performance issues a plus. Requires excellent interpersonal skills to complement strong technical skills. Must be able to succeed in a team environment while being flexible, innovative and responsive. Must be able to travel to client sites to integrate and test systems. Must be able to support proposal development and design presentations to clients required including but not limited to some marketing/business development to support department requirements. DoD prior experience desired. A valid/clear driver's license is required.
