Who We Are:

Southwest Research Institute's Aerospace engineering section under the Applied Physics Division provides custom electrical, mechanical, and optical hardware systems, and aerospace systems engineering services to benefit government, industry, and the public.

Objectives of this Role:

• Focus will be on collaborating effectively with a team of engineers and scientists to identify technical challenges and develop innovative custom system electro-mechanical, aerospace solutions.
• Provide multifaceted approach to lead initiatives focused on foundational and novel technologies while also mentoring staff and driving research and development programs through the development of white papers, proposals, and promotional presentations.
• Participate in program management, technical leadership, technical discussions, brainstorming sessions, and peer reviews to ensure the quality and reliability of our work.
• Responsibilities will include conducting in-depth research, analyzing data, and remaining well-informed on the latest advancements in emerging technologies and opportunities for business growth.
• Take charge of conceiving, analyzing, designing, developing, integrating, testing, and documenting complex and innovative engineered systems and subsystems.

Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:

• Analyzing, designing, developing, integrating, testing, and documenting engineered systems and subsystems to ensure their successful implementation.
• Collaborate closely with clients, sponsors, and program managers to comprehensively understand their needs and offer expert technical support and guidance.
• Mentor engineers, initiate advanced research and development programs through white papers, proposals, and promotional presentations
• Prepare technical documentation and reports, present results to management and clients, and provide leadership and support for ongoing and new projects.
• Assist and lead design, development, testing, data collection, and reporting efforts.
• Assist in capturing new projects and programs by providing support for proposal writing, costing, research, concept/design development, and scheduling duties.

Requirements:

• Requires an Bachelors or a Masters in Mechatronics Engineering, Control Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related engineering degree
• 5-8 years: Experience in designing embedded control systems using modern design tools is required.
• 5-8 years: Experience in communication protocols, microcontroller architecture, and sensors.
• 2 years: Hands-on mechanical and electronic hardware design and troubleshooting.
• 2 years: Experience in embedded software development, configuration management, source control and documentation.
• A valid/clear driver's license is required
