ENGINEER - RESEARCH ENGINEER - EMBEDDED RF ELECTRONICS

Who We Are:

The RF Sensors and Systems Department is engaged in new technology and product development for clients requiring broad radio frequency domain design and engineering support in areas such as modern wireless communication methods, radio imaging, radiolocation, and electronic warfare systems.

Objectives of this Role:

• Seeking electrical engineers with training in analog & digital communications and RF/microwave circuits to assist with mixed-mode circuit design, prototyping, basic firmware, bench testing and application of the latest wireless technology and devices from industry.
• Work with senior staff to design, develop, test, document and field RF electronic systems for applications such as spectrum monitoring, wireless communication, remote sensing, geolocation, and military spectrum operations.
• Navigating hardware, software and firmware issues in working out bugs during integration with hands-on testing at the bench or in the field to create robust products.
• Demonstrate interest and ability to learn and apply new technologies, skills, techniques and advancements in new fields.
• Opportunity to work independently on challenging engineering problems producing insightful results from broad statements of task objectives for a diverse set of clients.

Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:

• Participate in RF electronic product design, development, and implementation to include creating RF/microwave systems, configuring RF test setups, making measurements, analyzing performance, exploring improvements, and documenting work.
• Work with existing circuits and/or design new custom RF and electronic circuits, assemblies and sub-systems using simulation, schematic capture, board layout and fab/test tools under the guidance of senior engineering staff.
• Assist with modeling and simulation of algorithms for analog and digital signal processing; operate software-defined radios, create waveform files, analyze signals.
• Support design and trade study analysis in RF, analog and digital signal processing areas; help define design drivers and improve designs to meet performance metrics.
• Assist with and help present project technical reviews for client representatives to communicate work performed, receive feedback, and set action items for follow-up.

Requirements:

• Requires a Bachelors with a 3.00 GPA in Electrical or Computer Engineering.
• Strong math skills and courses related to analog & digital circuits, signals & systems, analog & digital communications, RF/microwave circuits
• 0-1 years: Internship or industry experience related to mixed-mode signal processing design, fabrication, test, and documentation at the circuit board level
• 0-2 years: Experience working with radio communications or digital signal processing technologies
• Strong computer skills; proficient in MATLAB; knowledgeable of C , Python or equivalent.
• Knowledgeable of analog/digital circuit design, schematic capture, PCB layout and printed wiring assembly fabrication
• Knowledgeable of basic digital signal processing and parameter estimation
• Exceptional communication skills to make presentations to clients
• Exceptional written communication skills to prepare input to technical reports and proposals
• A valid/clear driver's license is required
