LEAD ENGINEER - SR. RESEARCH ENGINEER - COMMERCIAL VEHICLE R&D

Who We Are:

As the Commercial Vehicle R&D team, we provide design, development, and analysis on components, engines, powertrains, and vehicles. We support research, modeling and demonstrations for combustion, emissions, and powertrain energy management for vehicles and off-road machines.

Objectives of this Role:

• Help develop commercial vehicle transportation solutions that reduce carbon and harmful pollutant emissions.
• Be a part of the team that pushes the boundaries of conventional, electrified, and alternative fuel powertrains for commercial truck and off-highway.
• Lead the development of new and innovative concepts to improve the performance, efficiency, and emissions of current and future commercial vehicle powertrains.
• Manage and execute projects in engine, powertrain, fuels and lubricants research, development, and testing.
• Bring your background knowledge and industry expertise to improve SwRI's market position, foster existing client relationships and develop new clients.
• Represent SwRI at industry conferences and by publishing peer-reviewed research papers.
• Utilize your excellent communication skills to prepare and deliver presentations and reports to customers on a frequent basis.
• Support a global client base with opportunities for travel within the US and abroad to Europe and Asia.

Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:

• Provide new ideas to team of experienced research engineers and project managers to assist in engine, electric component and emissions experiments, data acquisition, and analysis of results.
• Create reports (both PowerPoint and Word) summarizing assigned tasks and data collected.
• Lead proposal activities on incoming RFP's and proactively seek to develop project opportunities with clients and drive them through proposal preparation, project execution, closure and lessons learned. Improve SwRI's industry marketing and promotional efforts.
• Effectively and efficiently communicate with, mentor, and coordinate laboratory technical staff and early career engineers.
• Must be able to travel, multi-task between different projects, and work independently with a minimal amount of supervision.
• Solve complex physics and thermodynamics problems by developing software solutions for data management and interpretation of test results.
• Use Python, Matlab, Simulink and 1D and 3D simulation tools to augment research and efficiently develop powertrain solutions.

Requirements:

• Requires a Bachelors with a 3.00 GPA in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or related engineering degree
• 6-12 years: Experience with commercial vehicle powertrain development in a lead role
• Experience with engineering software such as MATLAB/Simulink, Python, R, and SQL
• Experience with simulation software such as GT Power, WAVE, or BOOST
• 0-6 years: Project management, proposal preparation, PMP certification, CRM experience, EVA tracking
• 0-6 years: Publishing and reviewing industry journals and peer-reviewed papers and protecting IP of newly developed technology.
• A valid/clear driver's license is required
