LEAD ENGINEER - SR. RESEARCH ENGINEER - ELECTRIFIED POWERTRAIN

Who We Are:

The Electrified Powertrain section at Southwest Research Institute conducts research and testing on electrified (battery electric, hybrid electric and fuel cell) vehicles and their components, such as lithium-ion battery cells, modules and packs, electric motors & inverters, and fuel cells.

Objectives of this Role:

• Apply previous experiences and knowledge to improve the safety, performance, and life of lithium-ion batteries and/or performance of electric motors & inverters through applied research, development and testing.
• Help junior engineers and technicians with designing and implementing experiments and test stands.
• Develop statements of work and price proposals for commercial and government funded testing & research opportunities.

Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:

• Provide engineering experience and support for lithium-ion battery, electric motor or fuel cell test setup and execution.
• Provide regular updates on project status to internal and external stakeholders.
• Apply engineering principles and knowledge to data analysis for either lithium-ion battery performance, life and safety or electric motor/inverter performance.

Requirements:

• Requires a Masters with a 3.00 GPA in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Automotive Engineering
• 5-8 years: Relevant experience designing/building experiments or test stands for lithium-ion battery cells/modules/packs or electric motors/inverters for automotive applications
• Experience applying engineering principles and knowledge to analyze data and summarizing results in report/presentation form for internal and external stakeholders
• Highly motivated and interested in research and testing of electrified powertrains
• A valid/clear driver's license is required
