RESEARCH ENGINEER - SR. RESEARCH ENGINEER - CATALYST & AFTERTREATMENT

Who We Are:

The Catalyst and Aftertreatment Research and Development (CARD) team develops and evaluates new catalyst technologies for internal combustion engines. CARD supports commercial and government technology development to reduce harmful emissions from internal combustion engines.

Objectives of this Role:

• Work with multidisciplinary team of engineers and scientists to develop catalyst technologies for advanced powertrain systems.
• Support emissions regulatory development to provide a safer, healthier, and cleaner environment for humankind.
• Be a solution-oriented problem solver that exercises creativity and independent judgement in determining approaches to solve a wide range of technical problems with minor supervision.
• Write technical reports, papers, proposals and prepare technical presentations for client meetings and conferences.
• Attend and present at conferences or other events to actively promote SwRI business.

Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:

• Participate in the development of new and innovative concepts to utilize catalysts and emission control systems to enable improved fuel efficiency and/or reduced criteria pollutant emissions from internal combustion engines.
• Manage and execute projects in heterogeneous and homogeneous catalysis to support internal combustion engine research and development.
• Develop test plans to evaluate new hardware or identify fundamental interactions of feed gas streams and catalytic devices.
• Conduct laboratory testing involving engine dynamometers and as well as bench test facilities.
• Troubleshoot and resolve test stand problems.
• Conduct comprehensive data analysis and provide clear and concise summaries to clients and/or technical management.

Requirements:

• Requires a Bachelors, Masters, or a PhD with a 3.00 GPA in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related engineering degree
• 2 years: Experience with homogeneous or heterogeneous catalysis
• Experience with emission control devices such as three-way catalysts, oxidation catalysts, wall flow particulate filters, and selective catalytic reduction catalysts.
• Experience with engine dynamometer or chassis dynamometer testing and with troubleshooting engine and vehicle systems
• 0-5 years: Managing budget, schedule, and quality of technical projects as well as writing technical proposals or negotiating work scope
• A valid/clear driver's license is required
