LEAD ENGINEER - SR. RESEARCH ENGINEER - AUTOMOTIVE PROPULSION SYSTEMS

Who We Are:

The Automotive Propulsion Systems Department works to better the world by improving efficiency and reducing energy consumption of mobility systems. We research, develop and test a wide range of technologies including electric, fuel-cell, hybrid, combustion and connected vehicles and power systems.

Objectives of this Role:

• Help us chart the course of the automotive industry as an advocate for the role of the internal combustion engine in the decarbonization of transportation and mobility.
• Work closely with key government and industry partners by providing valuable insight and guidance in a rapidly changing automotive landscape.
• Interact with other experts within the department to gain a wholistic view of all aspects of the modern automotive powertrain.
• Stay abreast of the latest developments through regular publications and conference attendance.

Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:

• Work effectively with technicians and lab staff in specification, procurement, setup, and operation of test equipment.
• Perform in-depth analysis of engine performance for traditional spark-ignited combustion and advanced combustion modes.
• Work directly with customers to define scope for proposals, provide timely updates and thorough analysis.
• Provide direction and mentorship to junior staff through detailed work instructions and constructive feedback.

Requirements:

• Requires a Bachelors with a 3.00 GPA in Mechanical Engineering or Automotive Engineering
• High degree of mechanical aptitude expected
• 6+ years: Experience with engine testing or simulation required
• Detailed experience with test cell setup, test planning, and data analysis or ability to learn these principles
• 0-2 years: Prior experience with project management preferred with demonstrated ability to meet project deadlines within budgetary constraints
• A valid/clear driver's license is required
